About the Role:

We are going through an exciting period of change and are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Engineering Squad Lead to join our B&Q Mobile Engineering team.

This role sits within the B&Q Mobile (Native) Loyalty Squad, responsible for delivering and evolving the loyalty experience across the B&Q & Tradepoint mobile applications. The squad plays a critical role in helping customers discover, join and engage with the B&Q & Tradepoint loyalty programmes, supporting customer retention, personalisation and long-term customer value.

You will lead a cross-functional squad focused on creating engaging, reliable and scalable customer experiences that increase customer engagement, drive loyalty programme adoption and support key business outcomes.

As an Engineering Squad Lead, you will combine technical leadership with people management responsibilities. You will be accountable for building a high-performing engineering culture, developing engineers, driving delivery excellence and ensuring the squad delivers meaningful outcomes for both customers and the business.Working closely with Product Owners, Designers and business stakeholders, you will help shape the technical direction of the mobile platform, guide architectural decisions and champion engineering best practices. You will balance the delivery of customer-facing features with long-term investment in platform health, reliability, security and performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, coach and develop a high-performing squad of mobile engineers.
  • Build a strong engineering culture focused on collaboration, quality and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with Product Owners, Designers and business stakeholders to deliver customer and business outcomes.
  • Own the technical direction and delivery of features across the B&Q mobile loyalty experience.
  • Drive engineering excellence through strong standards in quality, security, performance, accessibility and reliability.
  • Support and mentor engineers through technical leadership, feedback and career development.
  • Balance feature delivery, technical debt and platform improvements to enable sustainable delivery.
  • Lead operational support activities and ensure a reliable customer experience.
  • Foster collaboration across squads, engineering teams and business stakeholders.
  • Support recruitment and help grow the wider engineering organisation.
What you'll bring

Skills & Experience:

Leadership & Delivery

  • Experience leading and developing engineers within agile product teams.
  • Strong coaching, mentoring and people management skills.
  • Proven ability to build high-performing teams and foster an inclusive culture.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience delivering outcomes through cross-functional squads.

Mobile Engineering

  • Strong software engineering background with experience delivering native mobile applications.
  • Experience working across iOS and Android platforms.
  • Strong understanding of mobile architecture, performance and engineering best practices.
  • Experience delivering customer-facing mobile products at scale.
  • Understanding of mobile analytics, experimentation and release management.

Engineering Excellence

  • Strong understanding of software architecture, APIs and modern engineering practices.
  • Passion for clean code, automated testing and continuous delivery.
  • Experience guiding technical design and engineering standards.
  • Understanding of observability, operational support and reliability engineering.
  • Strong appreciation of security, privacy and data protection.

Desirable Experience

  • Loyalty, rewards, membership or customer engagement platforms.
  • Retail, e-commerce or customer-focused digital products.
  • Customer identity, authentication and account management solutions.
  • Experimentation, personalisation or data-driven product development.
  • Working across multiple teams, markets or international organisations.

Additional Requirement

This role requires fluency in spoken and written English, as English is the primary working language across Kingfisher's engineering, product, platform and business teams.
